Storm Damage Strikes Italian Homes as Trees Fall and Structures Suffer

A severe bout of bad weather in recent hours hit the Vittoriale degli Italiani, uprooting several cypress trees and causing the main mast tree of the Nave Puglia to fall onto the ship’s superstructure, interrupting part of the vessel’s original setup. Giordano Bruno Guerri, president of the Fondazione, immediately contacted the Italian Navy and the relevant technical teams to carry out inspections and plan restoration work, while parts of the park were partially inaccessible from the first hours.

Recovery and safety procedures have been launched, with park gardeners, technical staff, and maintenance teams working to remove fallen trees and restore affected areas. Damage also extends to the Laghetto delle Danze and the Vallette, where landslides and downed trees have made paths and pedestrian routes unsafe, leading to the temporary closure of Villa Mirabella. For Friday, 17 July, the complex will remain open with reduced ticket prices, but damaged areas will stay closed to the public pending repairs.
