On the morning of Sunday, July 7th, the waters of Lake Garda in Bardolino will be the stage for an important ecological initiative. About eighty divers from the Gas Diving School, along with various partner associations, will dive to retrieve abandoned waste and raise awareness in the community about the importance of environmental protection.

Promoted by the Gas Diving School Sub Group, also known as Diving WWF Sub for its commitment to environmental conservation, the fifth edition of “Clean Lake 2024” is supported by the Municipality of Bardolino, the Province of Verona, the Veneto Region, and Veneto Agriculture. The event will begin at 10 am with a gathering at the Villa Carrara Bottagisio park.

In addition to the diving activity, the event will feature musical entertainment in collaboration with Radio Pico and a lunch at the food stand. Michele Girelli, president of the Gas Diving School and event coordinator, explained: “The event aims to send a message of education and respect for our lake: there will be about 80 divers in the water, supported by 40 volunteers on land.” The collected waste will be sorted and disposed of with the help of the Ecology Office of the Municipality of Bardolino.

The initiative will involve the participation of law enforcement and emergency services with their boats in the water. Gardaland’s mascot, Prezzemolo, will make a special visit, and around noon, there will also be a spectacular landing of a seaplane from the Civil Protection – Flight Team of Valeggio sul Mincio.

The divers will collect various types of waste from the lake bed, including bottles, chairs, bags, and other items that should not be there. The mayor of Bardolino, Daniele Bertasi, emphasized the importance of the initiative, stating: “Initiatives like this help to keep the focus on the importance of preserving the environment that surrounds us, and in particular, our beautiful lake.” He also reminded that the abandonment of waste is severely punished by the local police with hefty fines and photo traps.

Elisa De Berti, Vice President of the Veneto Region, will also participate in the event. Her presence testifies to the support of regional institutions for initiatives that promote environmental sustainability.
