A study has been launched for the sustainable management of fishing on the three shores of Lake Garda, aiming to analyze the conservation status of fish fauna. The project, which will conclude in 2027 and has a budget of 830,000 euros, was announced by the Councilor for Agriculture, Food Sovereignty, and Forests, Alessandro Beduschi. This initiative represents an important step in the collaboration between the Regions and Autonomous Provinces bordering the lake, aiming to ensure a shared and sustainable management of fish resources in an environment characterized by biodiversity, but also facing various threats such as pollution and the presence of invasive species. The study will be conducted by the University of Insubria using innovative techniques such as environmental DNA analysis, in addition to traditional methods like monthly fishing surveys. It will focus on species relevant to professional fishing, such as whitefish and bleak, while also addressing issues related to the sustainability of the fishing gear used. The Garda Community has expressed satisfaction with the start of the project, emphasizing the importance of cooperation between local and scientific entities to protect the lake’s fish heritage.
