“Symbol&Symbol: Celebrating Italian Nautical and Automotive Icons at Lake Garda”

The official presentation of “Symbol&Symbol”, the emblematic event of Lake Garda for the year 2000, took place within the setting of “Ristorante Vecchia di Lugana” in Sirmione, one of the iconic symbols of the Garda region. The event will be held from July 21 to 23 on the shores of Lake Garda.

Attending the meeting were Sirmione’s Mayor, Maurizio Ferrari; the tourism councilor of Desenzano, Giuliano Garagna; the members of the organizing committee led by Curzio Moretti; Colonel Riccardo Ferarrese from the Ghedi Air Force Base accompanied by Warrant Officer Alberto Pini; Francesco Ghiraldi, President of the Consorzio Tutela Lugana DOC; and numerous journalists, representatives of various journalistic and radio-television outlets.

Solidarity Initiatives

This event will also feature acts of solidarity through auctions of authentic pieces from Ferrari cars and Riva boats, with proceeds donated to the ANFASS branch in Desenzano del Garda. “Symbol&Symbol” is a term born not by chance but out of respect for the history of both Italian nautical and automotive industries.

The term originated within Riva and was developed from an idea by Gino Gervasoni. “In 1978, Gino Gervasoni — writes Sergio Massaro in his splendid volume “Le Barche di Legno” — conceived a unique idea that could only find support and realization within the Riva yard, considering the prestige the yard had achieved on a global scale.”

The idea was to publish a magazine that, while remaining an independent entity outside the yard, would serve as a support and interest tool for it: thus was born “Symbol”, a visual magazine produced in collaboration with Rolls Royce and Ferrari. After its initial issues, it reached a circulation of 50,000 copies, distributed to owners of these prestigious brands through the agencies’ networks across the five continents.”

Return and Meaning of the Name

Now, after 22 years from its first appearance, “Symbol” makes a comeback to make headlines again precisely through this event. To the original definition associated with Riva, Curzio Moretti, president of the organizing committee, wanted to add a second “Symbol” representing two other icons of beauty and speed: the legendary and timeless Ferrari and the incredible Tornadoes.

This triptych, considered among the most beautiful in the global elite, will be the main feature of next weekend’s event and will include some of the most beautiful and important locations: Desenzano, Sirmione, Padenghe, and the Sigurtà Garden Park in Valeggio sul Mincio.

Legend and Tradition

A story, a legend, a tradition — particularly related to Riva and Ferrari — which have contributed, and continue to do so, to elevating the Italian tradition and creativity worldwide. On Lake Garda, myths will gather once more to teach and entertain, reaffirming their iconic status in Italian culture.
