Alto Garda: Half a Million in Unreported Income from Short-Term Rentals Discovered. An operation conducted by the Guardia di Finanza in Riva del Garda has uncovered a widespread phenomenon of tax evasion linked to short-term rentals in the region. Investigations led to the identification of approximately 20 property owners and managers of tourist accommodations in the municipalities of Riva del Garda, Arco, Nago-Torbole, Dro, and Ledro, who failed to declare over 500,000 euros in income to the tax authorities. The inquiry was initiated following a careful analysis of online booking platforms, where numerous listings were found to lack the mandatory identification code.
Thanks to collaboration with foreign authorities and international providers, the officers were able to reconstruct the identities of the hosts and the details of the rentals. It was revealed that the individuals not only evaded significant taxes but also neglected to pay the tourist tax. The collected data has been forwarded to Trentino Riscossioni S.p.A. to initiate the recovery of the unpaid amounts. Furthermore, violations related to safety were identified, as some property owners had failed to report guest information to the relevant authorities and have been reported to the Judicial Authority.
