Tax Fraud in Upper Garda: 127 Undeclared Workers Found in Riva del Garda
Trento’s Guardia di Finanza has uncovered a suspected tax and contribution fraud in Alto Garda, with 127 workers irregularly employed and more than 3 million euros in unpaid taxes and contributions, according to a February-initiated audit by the Riva del Garda detachment. The probe focuses on a company that operates in the renovation and maintenance of industrial machinery and involves the sole administrator (a foreign-born woman) and her husband, who is alleged to be the de facto manager.
The investigations, aided by INPS inspectors, allege a scheme where portions of pay were recorded as exempt expense reimbursements without supporting documentation or proper withholding. A compensation paid to the administrator in 2023 may have remained on paper and could have been used to secure a bank loan for a property purchase. Cross-checks with the Libro Unico del Lavoro show that between 2021 and 2025, 127 employees received inflated, tax-exempt allowances, totaling over 1 million euros (including sanctions and interest). They also identified about 1.8 million euros in unreported turnover and VAT assessments above 600,000 euros, bringing the total alleged omissions above 3 million euros.
