Recently, the “Freccia del Garda”, the first hydrofoil on the lake, received a new tribute thanks to a donation from Umberto Sbaraini, a collector and former commander of the Carabinieri station in Gardone Riviera. The toy model, complete with a box in multiple languages, was presented to the Comunità del Garda and is now displayed at the headquarters of the district authority in Salò. This hydrofoil, introduced in the 1950s to promote tourism in Gardone Riviera and the surrounding area, symbolizes the region’s tourism evolution following the devastation of war. The initiative that led to the creation of the Freccia del Garda was managed by the Comunità del Garda in collaboration with the relevant government authorities. This innovative public vessel played a crucial role in transforming the lake into one of Italy’s and Europe’s most sought-after tourist destinations. Sbaraini’s donation not only celebrates local history but also helps keep alive the memory of a significant period for tourism in the region. Italian Version
