On the occasion of World Environment Day, Gardaland SEA LIFE Aquarium presented a unique initiative: a tank dedicated to the bleak, a fish that was once common in Lake Garda but is now at risk of extinction. This presentation is part of the broader “Experimental Ittiogenic Park of Peschiera del Garda” environmental conservation project, an initiative aimed at preserving and repopulating the species.

The tank set up at Gardaland SEA LIFE Aquarium offers visitors the opportunity to closely observe a school of bleak and understand the importance of this fish in the lake’s food chain. The tank, equipped with river sand and wooden logs, represents a reconstructed natural environment that helps raise awareness among the public about the challenges of bleak extinction.

The project is supported by a €340,000 funding from the Cariverona Foundation and the Veneto Region through Veneto Agricoltura, and is coordinated by the Municipality of Peschiera del Garda. Gardaland SEA LIFE Aquarium not only hosts the tank, but also engages in project outreach through informative panels that educate visitors, both young and old, about the challenges of fish conservation.

Sabrina Repetto, curator of SEA LIFE, emphasizes the importance of the project: “The Experimental Ittiogenic Park of Peschiera del Garda was strongly desired for the conservation of the lake’s fish heritage. The goal is to create and preserve an ideal habitat for the bleak, monitored and kept clean.” This commitment reflects the active role of Gardaland SEA LIFE Aquarium in environmental protection and education, promoting sustainability and the conservation of marine and lake habitats.
