Tobacco smuggling in Legnago: operation by the Guardia di Finanza

The Guardia di Finanza in Verona has recently carried out a significant operation against tobacco smuggling, seizing over 85 kg of illicit products. The operation took place in San Bonifacio, where officers from the Legnago Company conducted an inspection at a grocery store, following a previous seizure of approximately 52 kilograms of tobacco in the municipality of Nogara at the end of May. During the inspection, several packages lacking the State Monopolies stamp were found, primarily intended for oral use and commonly circulated among Pakistani and Indian communities.

Two Pakistani nationals have been reported to the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Verona for smuggling under current legislation. Investigations are ongoing to determine further responsibilities, while the operation highlights the ongoing commitment of the Guardia di Finanza in the fight against illegal trafficking, safeguarding economic and financial legality as well as public health, especially that of young people.
