Torbole Yacht Club Faces Leadership Crisis Amid Ongoing Youth Activities

There is a crisis at Circolo Surf Torbole. President Giovanni Nogler has resigned. Other leaders, who have always dedicated a lot of their time to the club, are no longer willing to continue. And what’s worse, among the over 200 members, no replacements have emerged so far. It’s a crisis of people willing to take on the responsibility of running it. Not a lack of activities. Activities are certainly not missing.

Especially that involving young children. In fact, a solid group of young athletes has developed, achieving notable results among juniors and, more importantly for the youngest, they are also having fun. The first to want the club’s activities to continue is the municipal administration (the Municipality owns the building housing the club). Moreover, Flavio Pompermaier, deputy mayor, defends the club against criticisms that have emerged in recent days from supporters (external to the majority).

The statements of the administration and the vice mayor’s position

“There is little clarity about the situation. Comments are based on hearsay. This is not an exclusive club for sunbathers,” he responds, “but a club for members who participate in its activities.” Regarding the crisis, he adds: “It’s an internal problem: related to personnel and the low number of resident members. However, we care about ensuring the club does not close, and we will support it in exchange for promotion.”

Promotion, of course, in the form of regattas and youth sporting activities, similar to those so far organized through completely free courses for children from Nago and Torbole. Already, contacts have been made between vice president Luca Perazzolli and Mayor Parolari to evaluate the best course of action.

“As an administration,” continues Pompermaier, “we believe that the club can continue its activities on its own.” It will be during the upcoming assembly, scheduled for the end of the month, that it will be determined whether the crisis can be resolved without further trauma.

The role of the Municipality and possible interventions

At this point, the Municipality’s support could also involve trying to find someone local to join the new steering committee and support the few dedicated members left. In other words, encouraging locals to join the club without prejudice and to make use of its services. The costs for residents are affordable, and children are already involved, and satisfied.

“Otherwise, if it truly cannot manage alone, instead of closing, our proposal could be to appoint a commissioner,” he suggests. Naturally, this would be in place until better times return.
