Torri Olive Festival Opens Amid Bad Weather and Holy Trinity Church Inauguration

The popular saying that rain brings good luck to newlyweds does not apply to the Olive Festival. The municipal authorities of Torri realized this firsthand, especially on Saturday, the inaugural day, when they had to endure relentless bad weather, which brought rain throughout the weekend dedicated to the olive. As a result, the town saw quite few visitors on Saturday, despite it being the day with the most cultural events, while on Sunday “the music” changed, thanks to a mild sun. The festival, which began at 9 a.m. in the city council chamber with the awards ceremony for the provincial competition reserved for elementary and middle schools on the theme “Oil and the Olive”, was then marked by two other moments of particular historical and cultural significance.

Inauguration of the Church of the Holy Trinity

At 11 a.m., in the presence of Don Luciano De Agostini who blessed it, the Church of the Holy Trinity on Torri’s port was officially inaugurated. Recently restored, the church’s precious frescoes dating from the 1400s, had already been opened and presented to the public on the eve of Christmas, in the presence of numerous local and provincial authorities.
