The teachers’ lounge at the “G. di Pietro” middle school in Toscolano Maderno has recently been named after Elsa Pelizzari, known as the partisan “Gloria,” in a gesture that celebrates historical memory and the courage of a figure emblematic of the Resistance. On Wednesday, during a meaningful ceremony, the school principal Giampiero Cerri emphasized the importance of keeping memory alive: “The worst thing that can happen to us is losing our memory. We must remember, every day.” Elsa Pelizzari, born in 1929 and who passed away three years ago, dedicated her life to civic engagement, also serving as the president of the Avis in Salò and volunteering in solidarity missions.
Mayor Chiara Chimini reiterated the importance of remembrance among students, urging them to cultivate values such as kindness and respect in order to avoid repeating the mistakes of the past. Also present at the event were Pelizzari’s daughter and grandson, who highlighted how the naming serves as a lasting tribute to her educational legacy and the values of the Resistance she always championed. The new plaque affixed in the teachers’ lounge serves as a constant reminder for future generations of the importance of historical memory and the contributions of women in the struggle for freedom.
