Tourism Sector Faces Student and Hotel Industry Leaders in Garda Veneto Dialogue

A recent survey by the Observatory for Tourism, involving 425 students aged 14-20 from local hospitality and language schools, indicates low attractiveness of careers in tourism. Only 39% of respondents expressed interest in working in the sector, citing concerns over low wages (70.4%), limited professional growth (62.9%), and high stress levels (58.3%).

Federalberghi Garda Veneto disputes these findings, asserting that wages in their member establishments align with industry standards and that their payroll consultancy manages over fifty companies. The association’s director, Mattia Boschelli, also highlighted that many young Italians seek opportunities abroad, referencing ISTAT data showing around 630,000 youth leaving Italy between 2011 and 2024. He called for a discussion based on actual data, having learned of the survey only through the press.
