Traffic in Desenzano: pedestrianization of Piazza Malvezzi under discussion

Recently, Desenzano del Garda has initiated a plan to reorganize the traffic in the historic center, aiming to enhance the livability and safety of the area. City councilor Andrea Spiller emphasized that the project includes a near-total pedestrianization of Piazza Malvezzi and the closure of other streets to traffic for most of the day. Additionally, there are plans to introduce one-way streets and install electronic gates to monitor compliance with the new regulations. Spiller expressed appreciation for the Administration’s intentions but underscored the necessity of implementing the plan in a coherent and sustainable manner. Despite the good intentions, there are still some issues to address regarding the accessibility of the center. Spiller raised the need to standardize the regulations for outdoor seating and suggested extending the traffic closure periods along the lakeside during summer evenings when it is crowded with tourists. The hope is that this process can lead to a broader and more structured intervention, helping to make Desenzano a more welcoming and attractive place for visitors. Italian Version
