Traffic Light System Enhances Safety at San Tomaso Intersection in Riva-Arco
Amid the growing proliferation of so-called smart traffic lights, the Riva-Arco state highway is no exception. At the San Tomaso intersection, a traffic light system has now been installed to serve three main purposes: to allow licensed pedestrians a protected crossing of the very busy road (fortunately, crossing to the other side is relatively infrequent).
To enable drivers coming from the local road leading to Pasina across the countryside to merge onto the main route without having to seize a fleeting opportunity to slip into the flow or rely on the increasingly rare benevolence of motorists willing to brake.
Third, to enforce the 50 km/h speed limit: otherwise, as at San Giorgio, the red light activates, stopping everyone. The system has been installed; now it only needs the AGS to connect the electrical wiring. It will only take a few days, and then the demands from residents, represented by Pro San Tomaso, will be fulfilled.
Works at the Inviolata roundabout
Work begins next Monday on another project that has been widely discussed: the Inviolata roundabout, around which rumors of internal conflicts within the city council have circulated this summer, despite denials and conflicting reports, between Pietro Matteotti who supports it and Emilio Munari who opposes.
The Martinatti company has won the contract, which is estimated to cost around 950 million lire. Construction will start next week, beginning from the western side, toward the hospital.
The designer has divided the entire work into five phases, to be carried out sequentially, without disrupting traffic (which also includes heavy vehicles from the Val di Ledro, for which the Pasina provincial road in the south-north direction is prohibited by an ordinance from the mayor—many truck drivers seem to conveniently forget this).
A break is scheduled for Christmas, then work continues, which may take up to 120 days. By Easter, for tourism-related reasons, everything should be back to normal.
