An 87-year-old German tourist drowned while swimming approximately twenty meters from the breakwater in front of the Hotel Villa Beatrice. The man’s wife raised the alarm after noticing his absence from the surface.
The response from the authorities was swift; the Coast Guard coordinated rescue operations with two boats, supported by the hydroambulance of the Italian Red Cross and the Fire Brigade from Bardolino. Dive teams and helicopters from Trento and Venice also participated in the search efforts. Around 4 PM, the lifeless body of the elderly man was found at a depth of about ten meters. Local police arrived on the scene to initiate the necessary investigations to clarify the circumstances of the incident.
