A tragedy struck Lake Garda this afternoon, June 8, in Magugnano di Brenzone, where an 87-year-old German tourist drowned. The alert was raised when the man’s wife noticed he had not resurfaced after swimming approximately 20 meters from the breakwater in front of the Villa Beatrice hotel. The Coast Guard’s operations center promptly dispatched two vessels, the Red Cross’s water ambulance, and firefighters’ divers, supported by a helicopter from Trento and Venice.
The search concluded around 4:00 PM with the discovery of the lifeless body at a depth of 10 meters. Local police from Brenzone were also present at the scene to reconstruct the events. Following the incident, the Coast Guard emphasized the importance of swimmer safety, recommending that individuals avoid swimming immediately after meals and wait at least three hours before entering the water to prevent similar risks.
