A tragedy struck the community of Padenghe on July 12, when Musiliu Sunmola, known as Tony, drowned in the local harbor. The 59-year-old worker, a father of three and a respected employee at West Garda, fell into the water and was unable to resurface. The news has elicited profound sorrow not only among his family but also among all who knew him. In memory of Musiliu, poet Yuleisy Cruz Lezcano has dedicated a poignant poem, highlighting the pain and absence his loss has left in the community.
In her composition, Cruz Lezcano describes the silence of the water that reflects the void left by those who are no longer here, emphasizing the importance of recognizing the lives of workers who face daily risks on the job. With evocative verses, the poet aims to make palpable the grief of the family and invite reflection on the fragility of human life. The elegy concludes with powerful imagery that captures the essence of memory and collective remembrance associated with Musiliu Sunmola, a man who will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
