Tragic Car Accident Kills Girl and Critically Injures Another

A small white coffin covered with white and pink roses and a ribbon with the golden words “your brother Lorenzo”. Waiting to give Elisa Prati, the twelve-year-old girl who was struck last Sunday along with her cousin Sara Marconi by a car and killed on the SS 11 road in the San Benedetto di Peschiera area, was a large crowd. People from Ponti sul Mincio, where the Prati family resides, but also from Pozzolengo, where she previously lived, as well as from Peschiera, the hometown of her mother and where Sara Marconi’s family is based, the fifteen-year-old girl who remains in critical condition at Borgo Trento hospital.

Funerals and memorials

Elisa’s funeral was held yesterday afternoon at the Betao Andrea church in Peschiera, since the parish church of Ponti is undergoing renovation. The body was buried at the Frassino cemetery. A somber ceremony concelebrated by Don Francesco, parish priest of Ponti, alongside three other priests, which brought back to the Prati family the deep pain experienced 13 years ago when their two-year-old daughter Eleonora passed away in hospital.

In his homily, Don Francesco recalled how Elisa was a very simple, happy girl, with very lively and intelligent eyes, always willing to lend a hand. She was especially remembered in prayers by her classmates and her nine-year-old brother Lorenzo.

The tragedy also involves Sara Marconi, still in critical condition. Last night, Sara underwent a second emergency surgery, during which her spleen and ovaries had to be removed.

The two girls were hit around 4:30 p.m. on Sunday while crossing the road to return to Sara’s house after swimming in the lake. They were hit full force by a Mercedes, which instantly killed Elisa, throwing her over two meters away. Meanwhile, Sara, after immediate resuscitation, was transported by helicopter from Verona Emergenza to Borgo Trento hospital.
