A serious railway accident occurred in the late morning today, Wednesday, June 18, around 11:30 AM, when a 57-year-old man was struck by a speeding train near the Lonato del Garda station. Following the alert, emergency services quickly arrived on the scene with an ambulance, a medical car, and a rescue helicopter. Despite urgent resuscitation efforts carried out on the tracks, the man’s condition appeared critical from the outset. He was subsequently airlifted in critical condition to the Civile Hospital of Brescia.
The incident caused significant disruptions to traffic on the Verona-Milan railway line, leading to cancellations and delays of up to two hours for trains serving the Lower Garda area. The railway police intervened to initiate an investigation to determine whether it was an accident or a deliberate act.
