Transhumance in Tremosine: tradition and innovation at the Alpe del Garda dairy
This Sunday morning, Tremosine hosted a highly anticipated event: the traditional transhumance, which featured around 70 Alpine Brown cows parading from Malga Ciapa to the Alpe del Garda dairy in Polzone. The departure took place at dawn, with hundreds of spectators ready to capture the moment with their smartphones. The event, revived in 2016, is not only a celebration but also a way to honor and preserve ancient values related to rural life.
Around noon, the cows made a stop at the dairy before continuing on to the Bondo barn. This modern facility can accommodate up to 250 lactating animals and employs advanced technologies to ensure sustainable and efficient farming practices. The cows can now enjoy improved resting areas and graze in the surrounding meadows, thus contributing to a more environmentally friendly form of husbandry.
