Trebianel Festival in Gaium Celebrates Local Grape Tradition

The thirtieth edition of the Trebianel Festival of Gaium, the frazione of Rivoli, begins tonight at 7 p.m. “It is one of the oldest festivals in the area”, explains one of the organizers, Paolo Gandini. “Trebianel is a local grape variety, which was once produced in large quantities mainly in the two towns of Montalto and Gaium. Today, the farmers who cultivate this type of vine are few, but the festival has become a tradition that attracts many visitors each year. Enthusiasts come from all over the province to taste it.”

Typical products and celebrations

The best pairing, according to the organizers, is with chestnuts and risotto with tastasal. These will be the traditional local products offered to guests from tonight until late tomorrow night, when the festival will conclude. Tomorrow, the church of San Michele di Gaium will also be opened to the public. But the Trebianel festival holds a very special significance for the residents of Gaium and Montalto. “For us, it’s a socializing moment”, they say.

For this reason, today at noon, as has been customary for thirty years, a communal lunch is organized for all residents. “It’s the only occasion in the year for us to gather all together”.
