Trentino Prepares for Construction of 960m Gardeane Tunnel, Zwiseling Communities

During the site inspection carried out yesterday morning by technicians from the Provincia, along with representatives from Oberosler and Collini companies, the week leading up to the crucial date of March 5th has commenced. This is the day when, according to the forecasts of the Trentino provincial authorities, construction work on the Gardesana Occidentale tunnel is expected to begin.

Details on the project and the worksite

A project eagerly anticipated by two entire communities, namely those of Altogarda and Limone, which, once completed, will be connected again by land. The tunnel, which will pass through the heart of Rocchetta, will be a total of 960 meters long, with an additional 160 meters designated as a service tunnel.

The two companies awarded the contract have begun preparing the site; this explains the site inspection yesterday.

Blasting operations and safety measures

Meanwhile, operations by Dallapè company, responsible for dismantling the landslide and clearing the collapsed material, are progressing quite rapidly. After two explosions last week aimed at removing some precarious rocks, the specialized company Drossa is managing the cleanup of the entire area.

In the coming days, they will proceed with installing rockfall protection nets. The works are expected to be completed by the end of this week, just in time for Oberosler-Collini to open the construction site for the tunnel.

Materials reuse and future works

The debris is likely to be reused for the expansion of the D’Annunzio coastal road, which has long been reduced to a narrow, unadorned strip of road.
