Trento Traffic Plan Moves Forward Despite Legal Challenges
The Comai bis slip road will proceed, exactly like the Inviolata roundabout, according to the plans of the Malossini-Matteotti administration. This was announced by lawyer Mauro Vecchietti from Trento, where yesterday morning he attended the Tar hearing called to decide on the suspension request filed by Covibas against the entire urban traffic plan.
To summarize: the traffic plan, which includes, among other things, the Comai bis extension up to Viale Trento and the Inviolata roundabout, was adopted through two resolutions, one by the administration and one by the city council. Covibas challenged these resolutions before the Tar, disputing the administrative choices made.
The challenge is accompanied by a request to suspend the validity of the resolutions themselves: according to the petitioners, before the court rules on the merits, the administration could move to the implementation phase of the contested projects. Yesterday, Covibas’s legal representative announced that the applicants were withdrawing their request for suspension, so the court did not even review the documents submitted by the parties on this specific issue.
The substance of the challenge remains open, and the case is still pending: thus, the Tar will examine the core of the appeal in the coming months and determine whether there are grounds to annul the traffic plan, as requested by Covibas.
In the meantime, once the potential suspension is dismissed, the administration will be able to proceed with the detailed planning of the projects. The process is simpler for the Inviolata roundabout, which aims to redistribute traffic flows in anticipation of the closure of Viale Roma to traffic.
Regarding the Comai bis, designed on the right bank of the Albola stream, on lands belonging to Telecom and the Sport Center, a challenge has been announced by the owner of the recreational center, who does not intend to relinquish part of the property.
