Tullio Solenghi Performs “Insalata di Riso” at Gardone Riviera Theater

Prose, operetta, ballet, and opera… There’s a bit of everything on the program of the Vittoriale Summer Season in Gardone Riviera, where tonight at 9:15 PM, Tullio Solenghi will perform alongside Massimo Giuliani to present “Insalata di riso” (Rice Salad).

Born in Genoa, 52 years old, Tullio Solenghi is also and especially known as a member of the famous, though now defunct, Trio (along with Anna Marchesini and Massimo Lopez). It was with the Trio that, in 1984, Solenghi began to make himself known in the entertainment world by hosting the radio program “Helzapoppin”.

From radio to television was a breeze. In 1985, Enzo Trapani brought them onto “Tastomatto”, followed by appearances on “Domenica In”, “Fantastico”, and other TV shows. However, the big break came in 1990 with Marchesini, Solenghi, and Lopez’s successful parody broadcast in prime time, dedicated to Manzoni’s “The Betrothed”.

Career Divisions

In 1995, the Trio disbanded. While Lopez immediately started working solo, Solenghi and Marchesini continued together for a program called “La rossa del Roxy bar”. However, fate had already marked their paths for separate journeys, and Tullio’s and Anna’s careers also diverged.

Among the highlights of the “soloist” Solenghi’s career are several successful TV programs, including his participation alongside Giancarlo Magalli on “Domenica In”, and hosting the cult show on Canale 5, “Striscia la Notizia” (not to mention the advertising that bombarded us for months on all TV channels of a famous coffee blend).

The return to theater

Tonight, Solenghi returns to the theater. “Insalata di riso” is a cabaret show where the comedian presents a variety of the most famous characters he has portrayed over the years. Here’s how the actor himself describes his performance: “Faithful to the theory that laughter will free us from the anxieties of daily life, in this menu I propose humor, the main dish of the evening, prepared according to current recipes. It begins with an appetizer featuring my beginnings, my impact on television, and my meeting with the inevitable Pippo Baudo.”

For the main course, Solenghi continues, “I go for the classics, with the repertoire that defined the years of the Trio (I think it’s enough to remember Renzo Tramaglino…). As a second course, I propose a trio of tastings I’ve already served on Domenica In: Iervolino, Zeman, and Prince Carlo of England. And when the magician Omelma arrives later, it means we’re truly at the end…”
