Two men have been arrested for robbing and assaulting an elderly couple in Castelnuovo del Garda. The two criminals posed as members of the Basque Green Berets, using counterfeit uniforms of the Guardia di Finanza. Once inside the villa, they immobilized the couple, threatening them with a semi-automatic pistol and a taser. They stole 500 euros in cash, a rifle, and a gold necklace before tying up and gagging the victims in the basement bathroom.
Investigations conducted by the carabinieri of Peschiera del Garda, with the support of the military from Rovereto, led to the arrest of two men residing in Trentino Alto Adige. Thanks to the surveillance systems in the area and license plate readers, the vehicles used by the robbers were identified. Despite stealing license plates to confuse the investigations, the carabinieri were able to reconstruct the dynamics of the crime.
During the arrests, a series of items were found in one of the suspect’s homes, including caps, polo shirts, reflective vests with Guardia di Finanza insignia, and even a toy gun without the red cap. The two arrested individuals have been transferred to the Rovereto penitentiary pending judicial proceedings.
Investigations are ongoing to identify the other accomplices.
