Ultramarathoner from Toscolano Maderno Conquers Marathon des Sables to Raise Awareness for SCN8A Mutation

Rudi Amati, a 55-year-old ultrarunner from Toscolano Maderno, completed the Marathon des Sables in Morocco, covering approximately 270 km over six stages, including a 100 km race. His effort aimed to raise awareness and funds for SCN8A Italia ODV, supporting research and families affected by the SCN8A genetic mutation.

During the event in early April, Amati finished all stages, which included daily runs of up to 42 km and a cumulative elevation gain of nearly 3,000 meters. His initiative also boosted a GoFundMe campaign to support SCN8A research, a rare mutation affecting around 800 cases worldwide and about 30 in Italy, including a girl from Gargnano.
