The future of the municipal swimming pools in Desenzano del Garda is still uncertain. After the closure of the G.Signori swimming facility at the end of 2023 due to the expiration of the concession with the operator, no concrete information has been provided regarding the prospects for the pools.

During the last city council meeting on April 22nd, minority councilors raised the issue and questioned the Administration about the current state of the facility. The lack of news in recent months has caused concern and frustration among citizens.

Councilor Stefano Terzi criticized the Administration’s inability to address the problem in a timely manner, stating that Desenzano has been without a pool for months and that there doesn’t seem to be an immediate solution. Councilor Andrea Spiller emphasized the importance of the pools for the community and asked for clarity on the timeline for reopening.

In response to the requests, Deputy Mayor Stefano Medioli explained that eight years ago it was already clear that the pools could not be managed profitably. Despite this, another contractual extension was granted. According to Medioli, 10 million euros are needed to carry out the necessary renovations to the facility. However, there are currently not enough funds to cover this expense.

Councilor Giovita Girelli emphasized that without funds, it will not be possible to have a new pool and that a decision needs to be made on where to invest, as not everything is feasible.

In January 2022, Garda Uno’s project for the renovation of the municipal swimming pools in Desenzano was approved. The project included the construction of two 50-meter and 25-meter pools approved for international competitions, a motor rehabilitation center, an equipped gym, a relaxation area, and a refreshment area. However, the lack of funds has put this project on hold.
