The introduction of 30% tariffs by the USA on European products could have a devastating impact on the agri-food sector in Brescia, with estimates indicating losses exceeding 20 million euros. Coldiretti Brescia has highlighted that the United States is the main non-EU partner for this sector, and the increase in prices for American consumers could lead to a decrease in consumption, leaving Italian companies with unsold products. The analysis emphasizes that in 2024, the export of Brescia’s agri-food products to the USA had already surpassed 60 million euros.
The new tariffs, which add to existing ones, will severely affect key supply chains of Made in Italy. According to Coldiretti’s projections, some iconic products will experience significant price hikes: tariffs will reach 45% for cheeses and 35% for wines. Laura Facchetti, president of Coldiretti Brescia, stated that these tariffs would be a severe blow to both local agricultural businesses and American consumers, expressing an urgent need to reach an agreement and reduce uncertainty in international trade.
