A senseless and uncivil act has targeted the “La Stazione” socio-cultural center in Lonato, unfortunately representing just the latest episode in a series of vandalism acts recorded in recent weeks. The facility, managed by the Pro Loco, was the subject of an act of vandalism that also involved the book sharing box inside.

According to reports on social media, the books made available for sharing have been stolen without being exchanged, as intended by the initiative spread in many towns around Lake Garda. However, the latest episode goes further: the books were taken from the box and burned at the entrance of the train station or destroyed inside the underpass near Piazzale Vittorio Veneto.

Not only were the books damaged, but the walls of the facility were also defaced with graffiti made with paint. It is likely that the authors of the graffiti are the same individuals responsible for the act of vandalism against the book sharing box.

In the face of these deplorable incidents, numerous citizens have expressed the need to install a video surveillance system in the area to prevent future acts of vandalism. The presence of cameras could serve as a deterrent and help identify any individuals responsible for the damages.

The Pro Loco of Lonato, together with the relevant authorities, should consider adopting appropriate security measures to protect the “La Stazione” socio-cultural center and prevent further acts of vandalism. At the same time, it is essential to involve the local community in the protection of cultural spaces, promoting a sense of ownership and responsibility towards the shared cultural heritage.
