Varano Montichiari: Access Ban Imposed Over Large Agricultural Area
Varano Montichiari’s mayor, Marco Togni, has signed an urgent and immediately enforceable ordinance after reports with geotagged photos documented an adult reptile in the municipality’s countryside. The measure, valid for 10 days, bans pedestrians and cyclists from passing through or stopping in the agricultural area along Provincial Road 668, between Colomberino Castellina, Pozzo Cavato and the border with Calcinato, citing a concrete and imminent risk to public safety.
The animal has not yet been captured. Authorities—including the Provincial Police, Local Police, Carabinieri Forestali, and the Carabinieri CITES unit—will carry out searches using drones equipped with thermal cameras and the placement of two “trap cages.” Exceptions are set for law enforcement, firefighters, medical and veterinary staff, appointed capture experts, and local farmers, limited to activities necessary to operate agricultural machinery.
