Varone Polenta and Mortadella Festival Prepares for 2001 Edition
The countdown to the traditional “Polenta and Mortadella” festival in Varone has already begun, and once again, as is customary, the organizers of this centuries-old celebration paid a visit to the Riva Senior Citizens’ Home.
Meeting with the elderly
Last Sunday, President Danilo Miaroma and other volunteers were welcomed by, among others, nonna Giuseppina Pasini, a magnificent 105-year-old, and the eighty-three-year-old friend Redenta Strullato.
Gifts and joy
The visiting delegation handed over a basket containing delicious cured meats and yellow flour. It was a moment of great joy, held at the Via Ardaro facility, which strengthens the long-standing friendship between the Varone committee, the management, and the residents of the retirement home. The event took place exactly one week before the big and eagerly awaited gathering in Varone.
Organization and preparations
For the 2001 edition, the first of the new Millennium, organization was meticulous: a team of 35 volunteers has been working for three months, dealing with bureaucratic procedures, logistical issues, and planning.
Polenta masters and expectations
No detail was overlooked to ensure that the polenta masters (considered the best in Italy, and whose presence is now requested not only outside the national borders but also across Europe) of the “Polenta and Mortadella Committee” delight the crowd. Last year, over eight thousand food lovers faced the long lines without flinching, eager to taste their delicacies, as the small Riva hamlet prepares for next Sunday.
Details of distribution
Around 2:30 PM, the distribution of 650 kilograms of mortadella and dozens of steaming polenta dishes will begin. To prepare them, the polenta masters will use 100 kilograms of yellow flour.
