Venetian Students Voice Concerns Over Tourism Impact and Wages
A recent survey by the Observatory for Tourism reveals that students from local hospitality and language schools perceive careers in the tourism sector as unattractive, citing low wages, high stress, and limited growth opportunities. Among 425 respondents aged 14-20, only 39% expressed interest in working in tourism, with 70.4% concerned about low starting salaries and 62.9% worried about limited career advancement.
Federalberghi Garda Veneto, represented by Director Mattia Boschelli, challenged the survey’s findings, stating that wage levels are consistent with industry standards based on data from their payroll consultancy. Boschelli emphasized the association’s efforts to support hospitality education and industry, and called for discussions grounded in verified data, noting that the association was unaware of the survey prior to media reports.
