Veneto Funds Development of Monte Baldo and Prealpi Gardesane

A study to promote the development and enhancement of Monte Baldo and the Prealpi Gardesane. This is what the Veneto Regional Council promoted with acall for applications issued last month.

The aim is to restore the areas of the Baldo territory belonging to the municipalities of Ferrara di Monte Baldo, San Zeno di Montagna, and Brentino Belluno for tourist accessibility. In these zones, there are both historically and environmentally significant buildings as well as traditional rural structures from the Baldense area.

All are located within areas defined as “significant from a landscape and environmental point of view.” The feasibility study specifically requests the enhancement of the existing assets to give a new boost to local tourism and create new jobs.

Specific interventions and project analyses

Five interventions have been identified, for which a detailed project proposal, including costs of implementation, management, and potential revenues, has been requested.

The first involves the creation of a museum dedicated to the flora and, more generally, to the nature of Monte Baldo within Villa Caldenpergher, an estate located in Ferrara di Monte Baldo, where an herbarium will be set up.

The second intervention examines the Novezzina Botanical Garden. In this case, a redevelopment plan for the existing structure and a study for more integrated inclusion within the Baldo area are required.

Connections are to be established, not only with the future museum but also with natural reserves and with a environmental education center, which is the third scheduled intervention, to be built in an abandoned district of historical and architectural importance.
