Veneto Regional Council Backs Bardolino’s Bid for Italian Capital of Culture 2029

The Veneto Regional Council approved on Tuesday, June 23, a motion backing Bardolino’s bid to become Italy’s Capital of Culture in 2029, strengthening institutional support ahead of the official dossier submission scheduled for September. The vote was promoted by Verona-area regional councillors and involves Bardolino mayor Daniele Bertasi and municipalities along the Veneto lakeshore, following joint work with inland administrations.

The motion cites the strategic role of the bid as a tool for sustainable development and sets out priorities including smoothing out seasonal tourist flows, promoting high-quality agri-food production, supporting activities linked to fishing, and highlighting the local ecosystem through widespread cultural programming. It also notes the participation of groups from the Brescia and Trentino lakeshores and the Mantua area, while the Region pledges to provide expertise, tools, and institutional contacts for the final stage of the dossier.
