Venice Allocates €2.885B for Lake Garda Flood Damage Repairs
Venice allocates funds to repair damage caused by the high water of Garda at the end of November. With the “Financial Intervention Plan for the Flooding of Lake Garda”, just a few days after the meeting between the regional Councillor for Land Protection and Civil Protection, Massimo Giorgetti, and the seven mayors of the municipalities on the Scaligero shore, the Regional Council has made two billion eight hundred eighty-five million euros available.
Procedure and timeline for the use of funds
“This covers approximately 50 percent of the extraordinary interventions,” confirms Giorgetti. “Now,” explains the councillor, “our ordinance will be sent to Rome, where the General Directorate of Civil Protection will review it to grant approval. From that moment, the funds will be available.” This means ready cash within a week, as formal approval is merely a procedural step.
Therefore, “the money is available,” concludes the Scaligero representative of AN, “and all the paperwork is in order. Mayors can rest assured and start the repair works, along with the necessary tenders and project planning to carry out all the restoration works. It is essential to make Garda’s towns welcoming again, both for residents and tourists.”
Allocation and forecast of the funds
The nearly three billion euros allocated have been divided among all seven towns along the riviera. The predictions that anticipated an amount between two and a half billion and three billion euros have thus been fully confirmed.
