Venice Film Festival Honors Carter Burwell with Rota/CAM Soundtracks Award

Venice – Collateral Awards – presentation of the Rota/CAM ® 2000 PRIZE to Maestro Carter Burwell (film “Before Night Fall”) September 9, 2000.

For the second time, C.A.M. Edizioni Musicali will be present at the Venice Film Festival to award, within the “Collateral Awards” section of the Festival, the “Rota/CAM Original Soundtracks 2000 Prize,” dedicated to composers who have distinguished themselves especially in the field of film music.

The aim of the initiative is to emphasize the importance that music can have in film production through creative contribution and to highlight the interest and value that it can hold outside the cinematic context.

The History of the Award

Now in its fifth edition, the Rota/CAM Original Soundtracks Award, established by C.A.M. Edizioni Musicali to honor the figure and work of the unforgettable Maestro Nino Rota, has previously been awarded to Ennio Morricone, Luis Bacalov, Nicola Piovani, and Paolo Buonvino.

This year, the award went to Maestro Carter Burwell, composer of the soundtrack for the film “Before Night Fall” by Julian Schnabel, which was part of the “competition” section of the Festival.

The prize was awarded this year to Burwell “for his extraordinary ability to compose and orchestrate music for cinema, blending deep stylistic research with a refined, personal, and original style.”

The Prize and Its Value

The valuable and original prize, specifically designed and handcrafted by a Florentine goldsmith Franco Gioli, consists of a director’s chair made of silver and gold resting on an authentic compact disc of “La Dolce Vita,” the famous soundtrack composed by Nino Rota for the film by Fellini.
