Verona Bishop Appoints New Parish Priests Along Lake Garda Shoreline
Nominations and Parish Changes in Gardesana Parishes
News from the Gardesana churches: Vescovo di Verona, Flavio Roberto Carraro, has appointed several new parish priests in recent days, and the Diocesi di Verona covers a large part of the Brescia territory; in particular, much of the Lake Garda shoreline. A rotation of new parish priests is expected, many of whom will succeed the more senior clergy.
Let’s see which locations have been affected by the bishop’s decisions. In Desenzano, don Sergio Fasol, pastor of San Zeno in the eponymous district, will move to San Giuseppe fuori le Mura (Borgo Venezia, Verona), replacing don Riccardo Adami.
From Portese, in the municipality of San Felice del Benaco, the parish priest don Mario Lodola will transfer to the parish of San Zeno in Desenzano. The director of the Casa San Fidenzio, don Luigi Mainente, will oversee the church of San Benedetto di Lugana, at the border between Sirmione and Peschiera.
From Rivoltella of Desenzano, don Alessandro Pasquini will leave after a decade: he will take charge of the parish of Portese. And at Rivoltella, which recently saw the inauguration of the new, modern church, will arrive from Caldiero (Verona) don Guido Romagnoli.
Don Luciano Ugolini will then move from the parish of San Felice to Domegliara. Changes have also been made to the leadership of important structures within the Diocesi, which exert significant influence on the diocesan territory in various ways.
Additionally, the bishop assigned these roles: the direction of Casa San Fidenzio to don Roberto Bianchini, and the management of the Centro di spiritualità San Rocchetto to don Mario Luciano Ferrari. He also appointed don Renato Montorio as assistant to the Diocesan Economo responsible for the diocesan properties.
Furthermore, the new chaplain of the Ancelle della Carità di Cavalcaselle will be the parish priest of the same town, don Luigi Stefanoni.
Impact on Communities and New Religious Realities
The Brescia Riviera del Garda is considered very important by the Vercelli Curia. Simply because the shoreline, unlike other areas, shows a steady increase in population, mainly due to immigration from other provinces and from other countries.
The parishes are therefore preparing to provide appropriate responses to an increasingly multinational population. And for the first time (as in Desenzano), they also have to deal with other religions: at the «Alberti» theatre, a mosque-islamic cultural center is expected to open.
