Verona, bomb day: ordnance disposal operations in progress

On Sunday, October 19, Verona will be the focus of an important “bomb day” for the disposal of an unexploded ordnance from World War II discovered at a construction site on Via Apollo, located in the southern part of the city, near the A4 Milan-Venice motorway exit. Approximately 1,400 residents will need to evacuate their homes by 7:30 AM and remain away until the removal operations are completed, which are expected to last around four hours. A “red zone” has been established, prohibiting access and transit within a radius of 755 meters from the ordnance site. During the operation, the A4 Brescia-Padova motorway and the Southern Bypass will be completely closed. Motorists heading to Verona will need to use mandatory exits at Verona Est for those coming from Vicenza, and at Sommacampagna or Verona Nord for those arriving from Milan. Train services will remain regular. The local police chief, Luigi Altamura, confirmed that over 40 officers and 40 Civil Protection volunteers will be deployed to assist the population and motorists during any disruptions to traffic. A reception center will be available near the Policlinico of Borgo Roma starting at 7:00 AM, with shuttle buses provided by Atv to facilitate transportation. Italian Version
