Veronese Military Structures Opening Tours Promoting Heritage

Tonight at 8:30 PM in the former Prepositure Hall, meetings and guided tours of Veronese fortifications start, continuing throughout March, April, and May. These events are part of a series aimed at opening to the public and promoting lesser-known military structures (walls, castles, towers, forts, military buildings, trenches, and battle sites), of which the Province of Verona is rich due to its strategic position in military and political history.

The initiative is organized by the Centro turistico giovanile and takes place through groups of cultural and environmental animators operating in Verona, on the Baldo-Garda area, and in Lessinia. “Every weekend, we organize guided visits to minor sites, often in disrepair, open to the public; as well as specific preparatory conferences and educational visits with school groups,” explains Angelo Pasquali, provincial president of the Ctg.

Objectives of the initiatives and visit schedule

The purpose of the initiative is to learn from military works and wartime testimonies how to build tolerance, coexistence, and peace, and to recognize how military architecture often combines art and technique into harmonious structures.

The guided visits include: tomorrow, the Forte di Rivoli and the Napoleonic battle with meeting at 2:30 PM in the square of Rivoli.

On Saturday, March 3, an excursion to the Torre del Falasco in Grezzana. On Saturday, March 10, visiting the Forte Gisella in Santa Lucia. Sunday, March 11, exploring the Catena-Porta Fura complex on the Adige River. Sunday, March 18, an excursion to the Austrian and Italian forts of Ceraino, Monte, and Chiusa Veneta.

On Saturday, April 7, the Forte Masua and the trenches at Rocca Pia. On Sunday, April 8, an excursion to the San Marco Fort in Ljubljana. Further visits will include the Forte di Santa Viola, Naole Fort, and the Baldense and Lessinian trenches.

These guided tours will take place on Saturday afternoons and Sunday mornings or afternoons (at 9 or at 3 PM). Each visit will include an informational sheet about the monument for participants.
