A new opportunity for art lovers in the Lake Garda area presents itself with the exhibition “Water, Light, Fire. Ettore de Conciliis, Umberto Mastroianni,” curated by Giordano Bruno Guerri and Denis Isaia. This artistic event is part of the “La bella estate del MART” program and will be hosted in Villa Lagarina (TN), at Palazzo Libera and Parco Guerrieri Gonzaga, until October 27, 2024.

A Dialogue Between Artists

The works of Ettore de Conciliis and Umberto Mastroianni come together again after ten years since their encounter at the Estorick Collection in London in 2014. This exhibition represents a unique opportunity to deepen our understanding of the two artists, who, despite their apparent differences, share a profound connection with the primordial elements of our existence.

Ettore de Conciliis: The Power of Water and Light

The large canvases exhibited at Palazzo Libera by Ettore de Conciliis are described by Denis Isaia as a “refraction of the viewer’s state of mind.” The main theme is water, explored through bodies of water that reflect a variable light: sparkling, serene, or nocturnal. De Conciliis temporarily abandons the liquid element in some more intimate works such as “Late Summer,” “The Woods,” and “The Road of Broom,” where the total absence of human figures makes the viewer the absolute protagonist.

Umberto Mastroianni: Matter Forged by Fire

In the Guerrieri Gonzaga Garden, large-format reproductions of the Memorial of Portella della Ginestra are displayed, a pioneering Land Art project created by de Conciliis between 1979 and 1980. This memorial finds a meeting point with the monumental bronze sculptures by Umberto Mastroianni, known for his works related to the Resistance. Mastroianni’s abstract sculptures evoke a dynamic struggle with matter that reflects the artist’s experience of war.

Versatile Techniques and Artistic Innovation

Ettore de Conciliis demonstrates remarkable versatility in his artistic techniques, ranging from oil painting to murals and even land art. His works, often inspired by natural landscapes, invite reflection on environmental respect. On the other hand, Umberto Mastroianni’s dynamic sculptures stand out for their innovative use of geometric forms and intense colors.

Conclusion

The exhibition “Water, Light, Fire” is organized by Il Cigno GG Edizioni Roma in collaboration with Mart di Rovereto, the Municipality of Villa Lagarina, and Parco Guerrieri Gonzaga. It is an unmissable event for those who wish to immerse themselves in the emotions aroused by the vital and energetic works of these two great Italian artists.
