Vittoriale’s Cypress Trees Turn Into Souvenirs

Cypress trees uprooted by the mid-July storm at the Vittoriale in Gardone Riviera are being turned into branded, fire-burned wood sections for sale as souvenirs. The operation began on July 30, when a helicopter started transporting the storm-damaged trees from inside the complex’s areas to be processed, according to Vittoriale Foundation president Giordano Bruno Guerri.

Guerri said the recovered wood will help preserve the memory of the park’s historic trees. The initiative follows a similar project carried out in 2014, when 10 fallen cypress trees were used to produce 1,000 sections bearing the Vittoriale logo and a commemorative message; proceeds support the Foundation’s activities, which has about 50 employees, no state funding, and reinvests profits in maintenance, improvements, and acquisitions of documents.
