Home voting for voters with serious illnesses

Voters in the Municipality of Sirmione who are affected by serious illnesses or conditions of continuous and vital dependence on electromedical equipment, which are non-transportable and unable to go to the polling station, have the option to request to vote at their own home. This opportunity is provided for by Law No. 46/2009.

The request must be submitted to the Mayor of the Municipality by May 20, 2024, which is the 20th day prior to the voting date. To do this, the voter must send a declaration (Form 1) to the Mayor, in whose electoral roll they are registered, stating their intention to cast their vote at the residence where they reside. The declaration must include the complete address of the residence and preferably a contact telephone number.

In addition, together with the declaration, some important documents must be attached: a copy of the voter’s electoral card and a copy of their identification document.

But that’s not all: it is also necessary to provide a medical certificate issued by a medical officer designated by the competent bodies of the Local Health Authority. This certificate must be dated no earlier than the 45th day prior to the voting date. It is crucial that the medical certification faithfully reproduces the exact legal wording, attesting to the presence of the illness conditions provided for by Article 1 of Law No. 46/2009, with a prognosis of at least 60 days from the date of issue of the certificate. Alternatively, the certification can attest to the conditions of continuous and vital dependence on electromedical equipment.

This opportunity provides an important service to voters who, due to their serious illnesses or vital dependencies, are unable to physically go to the polling station. Home voting allows them to exercise their democratic right without having to face additional difficulties or inconveniences.

It is important to emphasize that the request for home voting must be submitted within the established deadlines and that all the required documents must be attached in a complete manner. Only in this way will it be possible to guarantee the exercise of the right to vote for voters affected by serious illnesses in the Municipality of Sirmione.
