Water Therapy and Accessibility Focus at Garda Event in Toscolano Maderno
Water as a therapeutic element and all the operators surrounding this reality will gather from May 4 to 6 in Toscolano Maderno for the events under the significant title of “Navigating the Sea of Solidarity”.
The most spectacular event of the three-day schedule will be the presentation of the fleet of “Eos,” boats specially equipped to allow disabled individuals to navigate. These boats were conceived in collaboration between the Facoltà di scienze motorie dell’università di Verona, the sailing clubs of Brenzone and Verona, and a group of rehabilitation therapists from the Negrar hospital (Verona).
Teens with tetraplegia are already participating in theoretical lessons in Verona, at the Yacht Club headquarters, and in practical sessions in Castelletto di Brenzone, where the special boat is stationed, with significant outings to challenge the wind and waves of Lake Garda.
Participation and Goals of the Initiative
The initiative’s promoter, Michele Dusi, explains that “the lessons are led by a great sailing champion, Gianni Torboli, a Trentino native, former world champion and Olympian in Atlanta 1996, crewed alongside the Celon brothers. He is a person of great humanity; when we asked him to participate in this initiative, he agreed instantly.”
This initiative has purely rehabilitative aims, and the students use a special seat that will allow them to move safely aboard the boat.
Program and Side Events
The event has the support of the sports and social services departments of the Comune di Toscolano Maderno and will reach its climax on Sunday, May 6, in Gargnano, with an unusual sailing regatta titled “Bring a… Friend on Board”.
The calendar of surrounding events is also interesting, featuring musical appointments such as the concert of the Banda Città di Salò on Friday, May 4, and a series of themed meetings. These events involve various volunteer associations operating in the upper lake area and high school students from Salò and elementary schools from Maderno, who will address the theme of handicap in its various components, primarily from a human and social perspective.
The Garda event has already attracted participation from health and social operators from across Italy.
