Young Hospitality Workers Drive Growth, Garda Tourism Observatory Reports

The University of Cattolica’s Observatory for Tourism (OTG) conducted a study on young workers in the Lake Garda tourism sector, highlighting perceptions, challenges, and opportunities among local high school students. The research, involving 425 students, identified a recognition of tourism as a sector offering transferable skills and personal growth, but also noted issues such as contractual precarity, low wages, and limited career prospects, which affect its attractiveness. Despite these concerns, many students expressed willingness to pursue careers in tourism if working conditions and opportunities for personal projects improve.

The study was presented during a seminar featuring stakeholders from education, industry, and finance, including representatives from VisitBrescia, local training institutes, and the Bcc del Garda. Participants emphasized the importance of local training pathways and public-private collaboration to enhance sector attractiveness and support youth employment. The OTG also announced an upcoming event on luxury market dynamics scheduled for February 20 in Desenzano.
