5G Antennas in Desenzano: Impacts on Sustainable Tourism

A 5G antenna has recently been installed in the heart of Desenzano, specifically on a condominium overlooking Via Gramsci, despite the opposition from the Municipality and the Superintendency. The decision to place the tower, which has sparked strong protests among residents and tourism operators, was made possible by a legal appeal won by a private company at the administrative court. Emanuele Bonotto, president of the “Visit Desenzano” hoteliers’ consortium, expressed concern about the visual and potentially electromagnetic impact of the antenna, located near his hotel and the panoramic terrace. Mayor Guido Malinverno confirmed the administration’s opposition to the installation, highlighting that the Landscape Commission had already given a negative opinion. Nevertheless, legislation on public utility allows such installations even in sensitive areas. The controversies raised also pertain to the impact on sustainable tourism in the area, with Bonotto emphasizing the inconsistency between local policies for quality tourism and this new infrastructure. As citizens discuss the possibility of further legal action, it remains to be seen how the situation will unfold in the lakeside town. Italian Version
