Bagolino Carnival: Brescia’s Tradition and Culture in Celebration

The Bagolino Carnival, one of the most significant traditional events in Brescian culture, will be the focus of a photographic exhibition dedicated to its charm and historical significance. From July 1 to September 30, Caffè Frapporti in Monzambano will host the works of photographer Daniele Olioso, who has captured the essence of this centuries-old celebration, characterized by music and dances dating back to the 16th century. Every year, the village of Bagolino comes alive with the colors of the Balarì, the dancers in traditional costumes, accompanied by the Sonadur, the violin players.

The atmosphere of the carnival is unique: the dancers perform in the streets, stopping in front of the homes of residents to dance and receive offerings of food and drinks. The melodies that resonate during the festivities are distinctive and reflect German or Austrian influences, thanks to a musical arrangement that includes strings and guitars. Olioso’s exhibition represents an unmissable opportunity to immerse oneself in the local culture and to relive the traditions that make the Bagolino Carnival a unique event in the Italian festive landscape.
