Domestic accident in Sirmione: serious burns cause death of 85-year-old woman

A tragic domestic accident has struck Sirmione, where an 85-year-old woman, Silvana Bettanini, passed away due to severe burns. The incident occurred on July 15, around 7:30 PM, while the woman was cooking for herself and her son Roberto. A suspected malfunction of the stove ignited a fire that engulfed her in flames, causing burns to over 90% of her body. Neighbors, alerted by her cries, contacted the firefighters who quickly intervened to extinguish the flames and requested an air ambulance.

Rushed to the Civile Hospital in Brescia in critical condition, Silvana fought for her life throughout the night while attached to a respirator. However, the following morning, her family decided to discontinue treatment to prevent further suffering. The Sirmione community mourns the loss of a beloved figure; Silvana leaves behind four children and grandchildren and is remembered as a strong and resilient person. Don Francesco, the parish priest of the San Francesco church in Colombare, expressed the collective grief and called for prayers for her.
