Calcinatello: 22-year sentence for the murder of Petrit Gega

A sentence of 22 years in prison marks the judicial conclusion for Petrit Gega, a 53-year-old Albanian mason found responsible for the murder of 20-year-old Alfons Kola, also his fellow countryman. The events occurred in the late afternoon of May when the two men met in front of a bar in Calcinatello, leading to a violent altercation that resulted in the use of a knife and Gega’s arrest. The prosecution reconstructed a feud rooted in their homeland, transforming what appeared to be a chance encounter into an act of violence.

During interrogations, Gega claimed to “hear voices” and to be “haunted by the devil,” raising questions about his mental health. A psychiatric evaluation deemed him “partially insane,” yet he was still considered fit to stand trial. Taking into account his social danger, the Court of Assizes ruled that, after serving his sentence, Gega must spend at least three years in a forensic psychiatric facility.
