Duck Festival in Desenzano: local tradition and new perspectives
The Duck Festival will take place in Desenzano on September 6, representing an important event in the local tradition since 1932. This year, the event will be held in the Capolaterra district, and although the official menu features skewers instead of duck, the atmosphere will remain that of a popular fair, attracting numerous visitors. Activities will begin in the afternoon with a mini-ball tournament and the opportunity to enjoy beer and sausages until late at night. Dinner, which includes appetizers, skewers, drinks, dessert, and coffee, is scheduled for 7:30 PM; in case of bad weather, it will take place in the Giovanni XXIII Oratory hall, accompanied by music from Rete Radio Azzurra.
The origins of the festival date back to a time when the community was recovering from the devastation of World War I. In the past, residents would offer freshly slaughtered ducks to their landlords and decorate their homes with symbols related to the bird. Today, the event has evolved in meaning to become an occasion for fun and enjoying delicious dishes, while keeping alive the historical memory of the local tradition. As is customary, some rain showers are expected during the event.
